Ju-Jutsu
The meaning of the word Ju-Jutsu can be defined as; Ju meaning pliable, flexible, gentle. Jutsu may be translated as method or art, therefore the word Ju-Jutsu means the gentle art, the gentle way. Within the art we use throws, trips, locks, strangles, chokes, kicks, strikes, nerves, weapons and ground techniques. The art is a formidable one with it being possible to over come an attacker by using the correct application of the right technique within the circumstances. It is about finding and using your opponents weaknesses. Our defence is applied to key weak points of our attacker including their eyes, head, vital organs and skeletal structure.

The effectiveness of Ju-Jutsu techniques mean that it is not possible to practise Ju-Jutsu as a sport and at the same time retain its true meaning. In practise great care and control must be taken to ensure no injuries are inflicted upon those that we train with. Anyone can practise Ju-Jutsu regardless of his or her physical abilities or age. Physical Strength is not a factor within Ju-Jutsu, an old saying within Ju-Jutsu,

"Nobody can take my strength away, for I do no use my strength".

On the other hand skill, balance, flexibility, relaxed technique and speed are the prerequisities for performing good Ju-Jutsu techniques. The beauty with Ju-Jutsu techniques is that they are universally applicable regardless of strength or gender. Ju-Jutsu is a true martial art and is recognised as the mother art from which other arts have developed from. It can never be regarded as a sport as it was orginally developed as a very effective form of self protection.
